How to Not Look Like What You’ve Been Through.

Alright. So you’ve been to hell and back.

First of all, welcome! Welcome ‘back’.

I’m actually proud of you for hanging in there.

But, I get it. Maybe you’ve noticed, or maybe you’ve been made aware that you kind of look like what you’ve been through. I’ve been there. It sucks. And here’s how to not.

1. PEP IN YOUR STEP

The way you walk/ enter a room/ enter the grocery store etc. is a large part of what’s telling people what you’ve been through.

Part of not looking like what you’ve been through, is making sure that you walk into rooms with a little more bounce in your step. It makes you look more optimistic.

Walking with more gusto makes you look more confident, which is how you want to look.

Bonus points if you can walk with your back a bit straighter, but the pep-in-step will mostly do it.

2. Manage Your Facial Expression

You don’t have to smile, per se, but when you’ve been feeling defeated pretty chronically, your face does tend to sulk.

Pull your brows up slightly (not too much, lol you don’t want to look surprised, now). This will help you look more hopeful.

3. Try to Manage Your Tone

Going through a lot can cause a certain sense of sharpness or impatience to creep into your voice more than it used to.

To avoid ‘sounding’ like what you’ve been through, you want to manage your tone. The goal is to sound patient and calm… as if you’re not in a rush.

… And That’s It.

I know you probably expected a 40-item list, but I’m not even going to waste your time. If you can manage your walk, your facial expression and your tone of voice, you pretty much got it.

Bonus points if you can put on an outfit that you like or a little makeup if you’re into makeup, bonus-bonus points if you can style your hair how you like.

But that all costs money, and I wanted to focus on what you can do for free.
